Xavier Worthy has one proud mother.
As the former Texas Longhorns wide receiver got picked by the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL Draft (and received Taylor Swift’s approval in the process), Worthy had his mom Nicky Jones by his side as he celebrated the achievement.
Born on April 27, 2003, Worthy is the oldest of Jones’ three children. From his collegiate career to now joining a Super Bowl-winning team, Worthy’s mother has been with him through it all.
Even before getting the call from the Chiefs, Worthy has made quite a name for himself in football over the years. During his freshman year at Texas, he broke numerous records, including 261 receiving yards. At the end of his first year, he was named a Freshman All-American by The Athletic and 247Sports, per his bio on Texas’ website.
Jones is constantly gushing about her son, praising both his athletic achievements as well as his character.
Here’s everything to know about Xavier Worthy’s mom.
She raised him in California
Worthy was born and raised in Fresno, Calif. He attended Central East High School in Fresno, where he helped the school win its first-ever CIF Division 1-AA state championship in 2019, per his Texas bio. In addition to playing football, he also competed in track and field at Central East, where “he earned a personal record with a 10.55 100-meter dash as a sophomore,” the school website states.
She has three kids
Worthy is the oldest of three, with two younger sisters named Ree and Onie, per Jones’ X account. Though Jones doesn’t share many details about her younger two children, she often posts sweet photos of them hanging out with Worthy.
On Mother’s Day in 2022, she shared a photo of her kids sitting together on the couch, writing, “My 3. This will 4ever be my fav picture…I remember sitting across from them, thinking how grateful I was to be THEIR MoM. No matter how hard it got or gets, there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for them 🖤 I’ll go to war over these 3! 💪🏾😘”
She is always cheering him on from the sidelines
Jones is constantly posting photos from Worthy’s games on social media, a tradition that has only continuing now that he’s made it to Arrowhead Stadium. In April 2022, she shared a sweet family photo of her kids with Worthy after a game as they all repped Texas orange.
Later that year, she noted that she celebrated her birthday by watching her son play football. “Best birthday ever!” she captioned the photo of her sporting her son’s jersey with an orange heart emoji.
She spent her birthday the same way in October 2024, this time cheering on her son as he played with the Chiefs.
After Worthy scored a touchdown, he ran to the sidelines to present his mom with the game ball. The Chiefs shared footage of the sweet moment in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
She is constantly bragging about his achievements
During the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, Worthy made NFL history as he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.21 seconds, the fastest time recorded in history. Like a proud mom, Jones celebrated her son’s huge achievement on X, writing, “MY SON is fastest guy in the history of the @NFL Combine! 🤯 #historymade,” which the official NFL X account reposted.
She says being his mom is one of the ‘greatest joys in life’
Of course, Jones isn’t just proud of her son’s athletic abilities — she also praises his incredible character. In January, she posted a tribute to her son alongside a selfie of them. “Thank you for representing yourself, family, & city the way you did these past 3 yrs,” she wrote on X. “No off the field issues. Played every game, even when injured. Persevered thru bad times & stayed humble during good times. Being your mom is one of my greatest joys in life! So thankful!”
In another post from December 2022, she echoed that same sentiment as she shared a black and white photo of them hugging. “I love success. It’s easy to celebrate. But real life is full of challenges,” she wrote. “I am most PROUD when I see how you handle adversity, the pressure, the nastiness, the hate. It brings out the worst in most, but you handle it all so well. My biggest flex is callin you MY SON! 🤍💪🏾”
She was by his side for the NFL Draft
In a video shared by Worthy after the NFL Draft, Jones could be seen sitting right next to her son as he was selected by the Chiefs to join the team, smiling from ear to ear as his name was called.
