Growing Up with Unique Lunches: Emma Watson Reflects on Early Alcohol Introduction and Confusion Towards Teen Drinking Culture

Emma Watson recently shared that she used to be puzzled by other teenagers’ excitement about alcohol, as she has been accustomed to drinking wine mixed with water since she was young. The 33-year-old actress revealed that her father used to include this alcoholic beverage in her lunch, so she never felt the allure of trying forbidden fruit like other kids her age.

In a new direction for her career, Emma is preparing to launch a premium gin brand called Renais with her 30-year-old brother, Alex. After taking a break from the spotlight since her last film in 2019, Emma is now diving into the wine and spirits industry, which has been a part of her family’s business for years.

In an interview with Financial Times’ How To Spend It magazine, Emma, who graces the front cover alongside Alex, discussed her familiarity with the taste of alcohol and how it is not a new experience for her.

Candid: Emma Watson has admitted that she used to get 'confused' over other teen's excitement over alcohol as she's been used to drinking wine mixed with water 'since I was a kid'

Emma Watson recently revealed that she used to be puzzled by the excitement of other teenagers over alcohol, as she had been accustomed to having wine mixed with water since she was a child. She recalled how her dad would give her this mixture for lunch, leading her to be confused when her peers found alcohol to be such a forbidden pleasure.

In a more laid-back look, Emma was seen posing with Alex on a wooden table in a countryside setting. Dressed in jeans, a grey vest, a white T-shirt, and Adidas Gazelle sneakers, she appeared quite different from her usual glamorous red carpet appearances.

During a chat, the former Harry Potter star, now a distiller, will discuss her experiences in acting, Hollywood, and growing up in a family that was passionate about wine, food, and the associated culture. Emma recently celebrated her 33rd birthday by reflecting on a year filled with gin-making, therapy sessions, and the initiation of a women’s environmental investment fund.

Acknowledging that she has gained insights into love and womanhood over the past year, Emma credited this personal growth to a period known as ‘Saturn’s Return.’ Despite her social media absence since December 2022, the actress, born on April 15, 1990, continues to make waves with her endeavors outside of the spotlight.

Used to it: 'I was quite surprised when other kids got really excited about the idea of getting their hands on alcohol' (Emma pictured aged 10 in 2000)

‘I was taken aback when my peers showed such enthusiasm for acquiring alcohol,’ confessed Emma, reminiscing about her childhood at the age of 10 in the year 2000.

Sibling project: Emma's words come as she's set to take her career in a different direction and launch a new premium gin brand, Renais, with her younger brother Alex, 30 (both pictured)

Sibling collaboration: Emma is embarking on a new career path by teaming up with her younger brother Alex, 30, to introduce a high-end gin brand called Renais.

Emma shared a collection of monochromatic photos featuring her in a variety of outfits, ranging from shorts and dresses to jackets, all taken on her birthday last year. In the caption, she expressed her amazement at turning 33 and reflected on the transformative experiences of the past year.

Before the age of 29, Emma had never even heard of the concept of a Saturn Return. Now, she humorously shared, she’s well-acquainted with it. She took a break from her routine life, tried her hand at surfing (albeit poorly), connected with horses, delved into therapy, and teamed up with her brother at @renaisspirits.

Emma also opened up about adopting a dog named Sofia in Mexico, participating in a Harry Potter reunion, and bidding farewell to her grandparents. She embarked on new endeavors like starting a women’s environmental investment fund, playing sports like Pickleball with @sugarrayleonard, and even trying to teach golf to her friends.

In a humorous mishap, Emma mentioned cutting both of her thumb nails while attempting to cook, resulting in months of one-handed tasks. Despite the ups and downs, Emma’s reflective post showcased a year of growth, exploration, and unexpected moments.

Growing up: 'My dad would give me wine and water for lunch since I was a kid. So I was pretty confused as a teenager and everyone thought alcohol was a forbidden fruit' (pictured in 2022)

As a child, I had a unique lunch experience thanks to my dad, who would give me a mix of wine and water. This early exposure to alcohol left me feeling conflicted as a teenager, with everyone around me treating it like a forbidden fruit.

As I grew older, I went through a range of emotions, from deep sadness to intense frustration. Through it all, I learned valuable lessons about love and womanhood. After three years of trial and error, I finally established a daily routine that I can stick to for more than just a few days.

I made some significant changes in my life – both internally and externally. I traded unhealthy habits for a diet rich in green vegetables, discovered a passion for creating websites on Squarespace, and even directed my first commercial. These photos were taken on my birthday last year, but at the time, I wasn’t quite ready to emerge from my Covid-induced cocoon.

Today, I feel a sense of transformation, symbolized by a blue butterfly emoji. I owe a great deal of gratitude to the amazing individuals in my close circle, who have played a vital role in shaping me into the person I am today. They are like my own personal Avengers, constantly inspiring me and providing unwavering support. Remember, it truly does take a village to thrive – don’t let anyone convince you otherwise.
