Based on actual events and under the direction of Academy Award winner Florian Gallenberger, the movie follows the story of Daniel (played by Brühl) and Lena (played by Watson) as they are caught up in the Chilean military coup of 1973.
Daniel is captured by General Pinochet’s secret police, leading Lena to a secluded location in the South of Chile called Colonia Dignidad.
Colonia Dignidad appears to be a humanitarian organization led by lay preacher Paul Schäfer, but in reality, it is a place where no one has ever managed to escape from. Determined to find Daniel, Lena decides to infiltrate the cult.
The film premiere coincides with an event at an Oxford college, where a number of celebrities, including Watson and Benedict Cumberbatch, are invited to dine with students as visiting fellows.
Girl power was on full display as Emma released her inhibitions, lifting her right hand triumphantly into the air and letting out an enthusiastic cheer for the cameras.
Everyone was all smiles at the event with Brühl, Watson, and Colonia’s Academy Award-winning director Florian Gallenberger in great spirits.
Lady Margaret Hall revealed an impressive lineup of appointments, including Neil Tennant from the Pet Shop Boys. The college’s principal, Alan Rusbridger, a former editor-in-chief of the Guardian, described the 11-member team as diverse and intended to connect students with various worlds.
These part-time positions will allow participants to casually join students for meals and meet informally, fostering connections within the college community.
The black and white outfits worn by the main actors stood out on the red carpet, creating a striking contrast. Additionally, they will be tasked with participating in more structured activities such as debates, performances, or seminars.
Other individuals appointed to the committee include Malorie Blackman, former children’s laureate, Francis Habgood, chief constable of Thames Valley police, Beeban Kidron, director, Mark Simpson, musician, and Rabinder Singh, high court judge.
In a blog post, Mr. Rusbridger expressed that the committee members come from diverse backgrounds and professions, serving as a connection between the academic community and the various worlds they represent.
Thriller: Emma’s latest film focuses on Daniel (Brühl) and Lena (Watson) who get caught up in the Chilean military coup of 1973, as per information from IMDB.
The college’s board initially came up with a list of potential visiting fellows, which was then narrowed down by a committee. Almost all of the selected candidates have agreed to take up the positions.
In relation to this, he mentioned, ‘They are encouraged to stay in the college if they require a temporary space for thinking or working.’
Mr Cumberbatch pursued a BA in drama at Manchester University and holds an MA in classical acting. On the other hand, Miss Watson obtained her degree from Brown University in the US.
Mr Rusbridger further stated, ‘Some of the individuals we are announcing today did not attend university. One of them even left school at the age of 16. We believe there is much to be gained from their experiences, and we trust they will value their time here.’
Although visiting fellowships are typically awarded to scholars and academics, only one of the 11 new fellows is an academic – Jennifer Rohn, a cell biologist at University College London.
Main couple: Emma and Daniel star in a love story on the screen in the film Colonia.
