Is there trouble in paradise…?
On Saturday, Oct. 12, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star Jennifer Affleck participated in a video on Instagram with her costars Mayci Neeley and Mikayla Matthews that seemingly hinted that her marriage with Zac Affleck may be on the rocks.
The Instagram Reel was shared to Matthews’ account with the caption “first time catching up” written on the video.
In the clip, Jennifer lip synced to a piece of audio, saying, “I don’t even know where we left off.” Neeley and Matthews took the next line, which was, “You were still in a relationship.”
Jennifer responded by lipsyncing, “I was? Damn,” before she stood on her chair and began to dance. “Things change really quickly,” she then mouthed.
Her costars replied by miming to the words, “You okay?” to which Jennifer lip synced, “No,” and climbed off the chair to move closer to the camera. “[I’m] not okay,” she added with an exaggerated frown.
The short video sparked some confusion among fans in the comment section, with some suggesting it meant the couple had split. Even Matthews appeared to express her difficulties in keeping up with their relationship status in the caption of her post, writing, “I’m confused 👀. “
Additional comments noted that Jen was hiding her left ring finger in the video, meaning it was not possible to confirm whether she was wearing her wedding ring.
On the same day, Jen shared another video on Instagram, which saw her costars mouthing the words of another audio clip. The video had the words “The whole internet…” over it, as well as “Me:” to indicate that the clip was her response.
Neely and Matthews both lip synced, “Admit you’re in danger.” as Jen stood with a smile on her face and her arms crossed before looking confused as she lip synced back, “Who are you talking to right now?”
“No one knows the full story 🤍, ” Jen captioned the post.
However, in a third video, shared to Neeley’s TikTok account on Oct. 12, Jen flashed her wedding ring as the lyrics “What kind of f—ery is this?” from Amy Winehouse’s song “Me and Mr. Jones” played in background. “You’re confused? I’m confused 👀, ” Neeley wrote in the caption.
Despite the confusion among fans over some of her latest social media posts, a source told PEOPLE on Oct. 10 that the rumors of a break up between Jen and Zac were unfounded, following fans’ concern when they spotted Jen not wearing her wedding ring in a TikTok video on Oct. 9.
The insider claimed that Jen often does not wear her wedding ring and that it does not bother her husband. The couple is currently filming the second season of the show at their home, the source added.
At the end of the first season of Mormon Wives, Jen was struggling with the idea of relocating after Zac got accepted into a medical school in New York.
In September, PEOPLE confirmed the couple had sold their home in Orem, Utah, although a source exclusively revealed that Jen was indeed back in Utah earlier this month around the same time the show was renewed.
The end of the season also saw costar Jessi Ngatikaura revealing Jen had told her that she is “leaving MomTok because of Zac.”
“He doesn’t want her associated with us. I am really sad that this is just a continuous pattern that’s not getting better,” she added to MomTok star, Demi Engemann. Ngatikaura then expressed her concern that Zac had issued Jen with an ultimatum, before Jen and Zac were seen exploring New York City, where Zac would study.
The couple began dating in 2018 after meeting on a Mormon dating app called Mutual, before Zac then proposed to his now-wife in January 2019. They now share two children.
In September, Jen shared a sweet tribute to Zac on Instagram, writing, “We were just kids when we got married. Young, naive, and inexperienced, we truly had no idea what we were getting ourselves into.”
She continued to express faith in their marriage despite their differences. “We didn’t always see eye to eye, and a lot of times, we still don’t. But that’s what marriage is, we keep trying,” she wrote.
The post included a selection of images of the two of them, along with a photo of their first house and of Zac hugging their children. She added in the caption that Zac isn’t “perfect” but has been supportive of her goals, including her social media career and her fitness lifestyle.

“We’re still young, we have two precious babies, and we still have struggles like so many marriages. But do we love each other? Yes. Are we willing to put in the work to be better? Yes. Have there been moments when we wanted to walk away? Of course. But there’s so much more to our marriage and what we offer to each other than people realize,” Jen continued.
