Kim Kardashian’s Attempt to Buy O.J. Simpson’s Bible Rejected by Estate Executor
Kim Kardashian recently made a heartfelt attempt to reclaim a piece of her family’s history, hoping to purchase a Bible once owned by O.J. Simpson and gifted to him by her late father, Robert Kardashian. However, her efforts were ultimately blocked due to legal constraints surrounding the sale of Simpson’s estate items.
Kim’s $15,000 Offer for the Bible
The 44-year-old The Kardashians star put out a bid of $15,000 for a Bible her father inscribed before giving it to O.J. Simpson in the 1990s, shortly after his arrest. If you didn’t know, Robert was not only O.J.’s close friend but also one of his defense attorneys during his infamous murder trial.
However, despite Kim’s offer, Malcolm LaVergne, the executor of O.J. Simpson’s estate, had no choice but to reject the proposal. The Bible, along with other personal effects belonging to Simpson, was already legally bound to be sold at auction. This decision was made as part of a court order to liquidate assets in order to pay off Simpson’s outstanding debts—specifically, the civil suit judgment awarded to the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, who won a lawsuit holding O.J. liable for their deaths.
Why the Estate Couldn’t Accept Kim’s Offer
LaVergne explained that accepting Kardashian’s private offer outside of the auction would not only be legally complicated but also financially impractical. The legal costs to adjust the sale process alone would amount to nearly as much as the offer itself, making it an unreasonable move.
“The amount is why I had no choice, because why would I spend $15,000 of estate money—why would I spend $15,000 in attorney’s fees—to sell it to Kim for $15,000?” LaVergne told People. “That’s a zero-sum game. That’s a bad business model. If Kim had offered $150,000 for it, we would’ve been in court getting this approved outside of the auction.”
While LaVergne acknowledged the sentimental value the Bible might hold for Kim, he made it clear that the only way for her to obtain it was through the public auction—where anyone else could also place bids.
“Kim can bid on it online,” he added. “She may even get it cheaper than the 15 grand, so who knows.”
As of now, the Bible has a lead bid of $9,800 online.
The Emotional Significance of the Bible
Beyond its monetary value, the Bible holds deep sentimental significance for the Kardashian family. It features a handwritten note from Robert Kardashian to O.J., dated June 18, 1994—the day after Simpson’s arrest. The note reads:
“O.J., this book will help. God loves and he will speak to you with his words. Read this book every day. God has a definite plan for your life. You are his child and he will use you again. I love you and God loves you.”
Kim has been following in her father’s footsteps by pursuing a legal career, working on criminal justice reform, and advocating for prison reform. On a recent episode of her family’s Hulu reality series, The Kardashians, she even visited the White House as part of her advocacy efforts.
Will Kim Get the Bible?
At this point, it remains to be seen whether Kim Kardashian will attempt to secure the Bible through the auction or if it will end up in the hands of another bidder. With the auction now open, all eyes will be on how much the Bible will ultimately sell for and whether Kim is willing to outbid others to reclaim this unique piece of Kardashian family history.
TMZ has reached out to Kim for a statement regarding her failed private offer, but as of now, she has yet to respond. Meanwhile, the auction continues, and the legacy of one of the most infamous legal cases in history lives on through the sale of Simpson’s possessions.
